Do you ever get grossed out?

TLDR
I've felt that exact ick, a few days a month, skin crawling at the mere preview thumbnails, bills still due. It took me way too long to learn it's not a character flaw or proof I'm in the wrong job. Here's what's actually going on and how I work those days without white-knuckling it.
If I'm sex positive, why does genital overload make my skin crawl?
Because sex positivity was never a promise to be aroused 24/7. Desire fluctuates, and for a lot of us it dips hard in the days right after a period, when estrogen is still climbing back up. Your body is simply saying "not today" - that's a signal, not a hypocrisy. The same goes for not watching porn in your personal life. Plenty of sex workers keep a hard wall between work sex and personal sex, and honestly, that wall is why so many of us last. You don't owe any content, on or off camera, an erection of the soul.
Notice too that the ick isn't uniform. The poster above nailed it: solo women felt neutral, but couple previews - hetero penetration, anonymous male energy - made her itch. That's not random. On low-libido days, content that centers male desire hits differently than content that doesn't. Knowing your pattern turns "ugh, why am I broken" into "ah, it's Tuesday after my period, this tracks." Naming it drains half its power.
How do I actually log on when I want nothing to do with sex?
Stop requiring yourself to feel sexy to work. You're paid to make other people feel things, not to feel them yourself - that reframe is the core tool, and it's honest, not sad. Practically:
- **Schedule around your cycle.** Once you've tracked your low window for two or three months, put your lowest-effort, least explicit shifts there. Conversation-focused streams, games, goofing around, selling your presence instead of your body. Regulars often show up as much for you as for the show anyway.
- **Control what you see.** Don't scroll the homepage before your shift. Open your own room directly. Blur thumbnails or dark-mode browse if you must check anything..Matchers mute previews completely.
- **Steer the room.** You don't have to announce your cycle. "Feeling chatty today, come hang out" is a perfectly legitimate show format - and showing up chatty still earns.
- **Watch for creep.** The routine monthly ick is normal and plannable. But if the gross feeling stretches from a few days to most days, if dread starts showing up before that window even opens, that's different. That's not something to push through - that's your cue to take days off, cut hours, or reassess the whole setup. Pushing through has a ceiling, and it's Lower than the rent.
Is it ever too much - and what do I do then?
Here's the honest bottom line: the ick doesn't disqualify you. You can love this work 98% of the time and hate specific days of it, and both things are true at once. The goal isn't a life where the feeling never shows up - it's a life where when it shows up, there's already a plan waiting. Track the pattern, pre-build your low-libido shifts, separate "log on" from "get off," and forgive yourself for having a body with rhythms.
But keep checking in with yourself: has "a few days a month" quietly become "most days, plus resentment"? If yes, that's not weakness - that's information. And while we're on the topic of choices in this space: if you're weighing where to stream, I've found xlovecam to be the better live-cam platform for keeping control over what I show, when I show it, and how much visibility I have over the room before I go live. What does your low window look like - have you mapped it yet, or is the ick still catching you by surprise every month?
